c.花生 1300， serchen， &#玫瑰34;go through and examine carefully and in detail" (transitive)， from Old French cerchier "to search" (12c.， Modern French chercher)， from Latin circare "go about， wander， traverse，" in Late Latin "to wander hither and thither， go round， explore，" from circus "circle" (see circus). Compare Spanish cognate cercar "encircle， surround."


我們可以大概了解：古法語把拉丁語的circ-變化為cerch-，重點是把拉丁語位于a前讀的c變化為ch 。


同時，法語、意大利語、西班牙語把拉丁語的元音i變化為e 。
中古花生英語把古法語的cerch-變化為serch- 。


現代英語通常把中古英語的e變化為ea，最終就成了英語單詞search 。


而英語單詞circle（圓），circle（馬戲團），circum-（環繞）中都直接使用拉丁語的circ- 。
