1、Acid test
Acid英文釋義：a chemical substance that has a pH of less than 7. Strong acids can burn holes in material or damage your skin.
即是指pH值小于7的化學物質。強酸會在材料上燒出洞來或損傷皮膚.
test英文釋義： a set of questions, exercises, or practical activities to measure someone’s skill, ability, or knowledge.
即指測試某人的技能、能力或知識的一組問題、練習或實踐活動.
那Acid test是什么意思呢？難道是上化學課時說的“酸性測試”，哈哈，當然沒有這么簡單。

首先我們來看Acid test的原義：using nitric acid to do a test for gold.
即化學實驗中采用酸性液體測試金屬是否為金的方式。
而劍橋詞典給出的定義是：the true test of the value of something.
即引申意思可以理解為“關鍵性的測試、試金石”等。
The new party is doing better and better in the polls, but the acid test will be the next election .
這個新型政黨在民調中一路高漲，然而下屆選舉將會是真正的試金石。
The new iphone is amazing but will people buy it？That's the acid test.
新蘋果手機很贊，但是會有人買嗎？這才是真正的考驗。

2、keep up with the Joneses
這是我想說的第二個俚語，有一部美國電影，叫做 Keep up with the Joneses. 如果不知道這個俚語的意思，想必小伙伴們壓根都猜不到它講述的是個什么故事。
keep up with 意思是 “跟上；趕上” 。keep up with the Joneses 字面意思是：趕上瓊斯。它的真正意思是：跟有錢人比排?。慌時?。
這個短語意思是怎么來的呢？
這又是一個由作家創造的說法，這位作家是一個漫畫家。這位美籍漫畫家就是亞瑟·莫曼德（Authur Momand）, 他在1913年開始創作連載漫畫，稱為《跟瓊斯家比闊氣》（keep up with the Joneses）。
兩年后，同名動畫在院線上上映。Jones 在美國也是一個菜市場名字，而莫曼德則使用這個名字來比喻 “鄰居” 。

“Keeping up with the Joneses”refers to the comparison to one's neighbor as a benchmark for social caste or the accumulation of material goods.
To fail to"keep up with the Joneses"is perceived as cultural inferiority.
